Thank you for considering Nimmo UMC as the place for the formal beginning of your life as a married couple. Please review the information here and call the office, Monday through Thursday, 9:00 AM to 2:00 PM, if you have any questions.

Scheduling Your Wedding

You must contact the church office regarding the availability of the sanctuary. (Due to the full church calendar for December, wedding are held only in special circumstances.) If a suitable date is open (you can also check our online calendar to see if there are dates open), please call the office to schedule a meeting to discuss officially scheduling your wedding. You may download the Wedding Form and have it ready when meeting to schedule your wedding in the office.   Members and immediate family members may schedule an available date up to six months in advance; non-members at the discretion of the pastor. Your wedding date is not officially reserved until your $50 non refundable deposit is received(see Fees and Honoraria below).  We believe a spiritual life together is key to a good and lasting marriage. If you do not have a church home, we invite you to become part of our congregation.

Premarital Counseling

Pastor Brandon believes marriage is hard work and your wedding ceremony is uniquely special, which is why there will be three premarital sessions. Each session will only last about an hour. During that time, the bride or groom may meet with the pastor for personal counseling. The first two sessions are a get to know each other sessions where we discuss questions geared towards discussions about married life. The third session will be to organize and plan your actual wedding ceremony.

The Wedding Service

A Christian wedding service at Nimmo UMC is one in which vows are made in the context of worship, prayer and thanksgiving. Readers and musical soloists may add to the uniqueness of your wedding service, and their use must be appropriate, with the consent of the pastor. A unity candle and/or the Celebration of the Lord’s Supper may also be included in the wedding service. Should you desire to include either or both, plan to discuss this with the pastor in the second or third premarital counseling session.  Any type of alcohol is forbidden on church property, we uphold a strict No Alcohol policy at Nimmo UMC.

The Rehearsal

The rehearsal, held the day before the wedding service, will last about an hour and is conducted by the pastor, with the assistance of the church’s wedding hostess and your wedding planner. It is important for all wedding party members to be present and on time for the rehearsal.

The Wedding Hostess

The church secretary will help answer your questions regarding facility use, decoration and other arrangements relating to your wedding. She will assign a wedding hostess who will be present before during and after the wedding and will serve as a resource for you and your wedding planner. Each wedding hostess is a member of Nimmo UMC and is familiar with our wedding policies.

Music

Nimmo Church has a fine organist and, by church policy, only he may play the pipe organs in the sanctuary. Other musicians may be invited, at the discretion of the pastor. The bride and groom have the responsibility to contact the organist once the wedding date is confirmed. Care should be taken to select music which will contribute to the ceremony’s character as a service if Christian worship. Our musician has significant training and resources to enable your music selections. Soloists, either instrument or vocal, should be chosen in consultation with the organist who will play for your wedding service.

Photography and Videography

Photography is not permitted during the wedding service, as it is time of worship. Video recording may be done only from the balcony. Photographers/videographers must remain stationary during the wedding service. The pastor will be glad to remain afterward to recreate scenes which the bride and groom wish to have photographed. Photos may be taken during the processional and recessional, and of the wedding kiss. Guests should be discouraged from taking pictures during the wedding service and to wait until after the service for pictures.

The Sanctuary

Nimmo sanctuary will seat 212, with 17 pews on the main level and 6 pews in the balcony. It is handicapped accessible via the ramp on the east side of the building. The character and colonial design of the church lends itself to simplicity in decorations. Guidelines for wedding decorations are available and should be discussed with the florist. There are specific requirements for arrangements on the altar relative to the cross. By church policy, the use of tobacco or alcohol in not permitted on the grounds of Nimmo UMC.
